Yesterday we made a quick trip to Seattle to watch the Seahawks Training Camp, and afterwards we met our dear friends Amy & Brian for dinner, along with their new little guy Max! Max is almost 5 months old and is the cutest little chubster you've ever met, with a personality to match. We were so busy chatting and catching up, I was only able to grab a quick cell phone picture. Some were more enthusiastic about the picture than others :)

Well, our Spring is off to a busy start! Not even a month in and we already have a few new adventures, a handful of birthday parties and some traveling under our belt. I love that Lexi is beginning to have her own little social calendar. March was very busy and April seems to be keeping right on pace.

1st dentist appointment - No freaking out (by her at least - I was a nervous wreck), no cavities and she waited until we were in the parking lot and safely out of earshot to exclaim "Mama, I did NOT like them scrubbing my teeth." Get used to it kiddo.
3rd Birthday - Complete with 2 birthday parties, a new bike, a trip to the beach for clam digging, and enough Dora birthday cake to feed an army.
3 year check-up - Business as usual. Still on the tall & skinny side of the kid graph. Impressed her doctor with her love of veggies and Spanish vocabulary (thanks Dora!).
Spring Break trip to Grandma & Grandpa Keller's in Colton - Plenty of love & spoiling over there and even some snow!
First swimming lesson - I walked her to the edge of the pool, made sure she got in with no problems and then the teacher shoo'd all of us parents away to the pool viewing room upstairs. Can you believe they just make you leave your precious baby there?! I raced up to the viewing window expecting to see a meltdown.....but nope. She was splashing and kicking away with the other kids. She looked like she was having a blast and even came up smiling when an accidental slip took her all the way under.

I have often heard that age three is worse than two but that hasn't been the case so far. I love where she is at right now and am going to enjoy every second of it. Before I know it there will be door slamming and eyeball rolling and I'll be nothing but a life-ruining taxi-driving ATM machine.

Last Saturday Lexi and I had a date with Suzi (who works with me) and her two adorable sons, Graham and Gavin. Lexi and Graham were so cute on their date, and Gavin was an excellent chaperone. First stop was Joann's to get some crafting supplies for the mama's. The two lovebirds didn't appreciate being in separate shopping carts, so whining and tantrums ensued. Not that I blame them, I remember being carted around the fabric store as a kid, BO-RING. Next stop was Costco, where Lexi and Graham were much happier to be seated together, thanks to Costco's roomier two-seater shopping carts. After that we headed to Suzi's house for dinner and a movie. Overall, I'd say it was a pretty successful first date!

Last night Lex had her first ever s'more. We got out the s'more maker after dinner and I told her we were making a yummy special treat. She was overjoyed as soon as she heard it involved chocolate. She watched in awe as I roasted a marshmallow up for her, and got a kick out of every time I lit the marshmallow on fire (what can I say, I have little patience when it comes to gooey melty chocolate and marshmallows. In fact, I think 'roasting' is an inaccurate description. More like charbroiled). Anywho, when the marshmallow was sufficiently ~~burnt to a toasty crisp~~ roasted, I plopped it onto the chocolate covered graham cracker, topped it with the graham, smooshed the whole thing together and VOILA! "Here's your s'more Lexi!" I said, handing it over, ignoring the fact that the 5 foot radius around and including her would soon be a sticky, chocolatey crumb mess. "More please! Thank you!" She responded. Excellent manners she has! She thought I was saying 'some more'. It only took one bite and she was in heaven. And, as you can see in the picture above, most of the mess was contained to her face!

This is Lexi's great great grandma Alice Jordan. Grandma Caryl's Grandmother.
Our trips over to Colton usually included a visit to Grandma Jordan in Lewiston, and she would often lament that she would probably die before she got to see Lexi's next big developmental milestone.

"I'll probably die before I get to see that baby crawl."
"I'll probably die before I get to see that baby walk."
"I'll probably die before I get to hear that baby talk."

And don't mistake that for her being all "Woe is me!" Oh no. That had "Get your butts over here to visit more often!" written all over it. Thankfully, Lexi got to show off her aforementioned skills before Grandma Jordan passed away last Fall. As I fumbled and bumbled through those awkward first months of new motherhood, Grandma Jordan told me on more than one occasion, that I was a good mother. She was the first person to ever tell me that. That will always be my fondest memory of her.

Today would have been her 98th Birthday----so Happy Birthday Grandma Jordan! Your family loves and misses you dearly.

On October 10th, we lost a great man; our beloved dad, grandpa, and best friend. He was caring, generous, devoted and strong. I am heartbroken that Lexi will never know him, never learn to golf from him, and never go for a cruise in his 64 1/2 Mustang with him. I will make sure though that there is never a doubt how much her Papa loved and adored her.

Grandpa Bob, you left us too soon, we miss you terribly and we will carry you in our hearts forever.

Just when I thought it wasn't possible, I fell a little bit more in love with her.

On an unrelated note----September 22nd----holy crap 18 months! And my baby nephew Evan starts middle school in a few weeks. MIDDLE SCHOOL. Excuse me while I go pluck out the 800 gray hairs that I think just sprung out of my head.

Memorial Day Weekend 2009

Last weekend we packed up the car and headed north to visit our good friends Carlanna and Joe. They so graciously opened up their home to us, and the little tornado we brought with us. Lexi all but tore the walls down in their living room, and their poor dogs...I can only imagine the amount of doggie therapy they will need to recover from the weekend.
So, without further ado, here is Memorial Day Weekend 2009: A Photo Essay.

After arriving at Joe & Carlanna's house, we all decided we would spend the day at Northwest Trek, with a stop at the new Sonic in Puyallup on the way. None of us had eaten at Sonic before, but had heard it was THEE fast food restaurant of all fast food restaurants.

Looks pretty awesome right? Don't let it fool you.

There were so many people there, it required a STAGING AREA. We tried bucking the system and just pulled right into a stall, but were promptly chased out by one of the Sonic employees trying (and failing) to control the mass chaos of hungry holiday weekender's, who, like us, were confused as to why a burger place required a staging area. We tried the drive thru also, but again, failed there too. Admitting defeat we joined the other sheep in the staging area line.

And we waited and waited in the staging line. Finally it was our turn for a stall, so we ordered, and waited and waited for our food.

This is Lexi saying, "You idiots know there is a Carl's Jr down the street right? No hour long wait there. Don't worry about me, I'm not sweating or starving or anything. Morons."

Finally get our food, which is mediocre at best. At this point we are kicking ourselves for waiting over an hour for crappy fast food that everyone raves about. We realize we spent so much time there it is too late for Northwest Trek. Oh well. We head to a park instead, and that pretty much wraps up Saturday.

Sunday we head here for Lexi's VERY FIRST MARINER'S GAME EVER!

First stop, Mariner's Team Store to pick up some gear for Lexi. She gets a mini Mariner Moose, which she later decides is creepy and offers to a little girl a few seats down. Also an Ichiro t-shirt to match mama's.

Next stop, the Mariner's Hall of Fame for a photo with the man, the legend, Edgar Martinez. You might say Auntie Carlanna is a fan of his.

Lexi was so good at her VERY FIRST MARINER'S GAME EVER. She sat on my lap and watched the game, and clapped her hands, and didn't even cry when I accidentally spilled a little beer on her while trying to shield her from a rogue fly ball that was caught exactly 2 seats behind us.

Other highlights from the game:
*We got to see a Ken Griffey Jr home run!
*Lexi attempted to steal french fries from the people sitting behind us. Like, literally leaned over my shoulder, and tried to snatch a handful of fries from their basket. No please, no nothing. I swear she can be so rude sometimes. ;)
*The Mariner's won! And the game was only 2.5 hours long, which for us toddler toting folks, was much appreciated.

After the game we headed back to the car and drove to Alki Beach for refreshments and people watching.

Since it was such a gorgeous day out, we had to stop and take some pictures of the city on our way home. We pulled over so Carlanna could run across the street and take these breathtaking shots:

On Monday, we met our good friend Amy for lunch at Cheesecake Factory and headed home. We had an awesome weekend, thank you so much to Carlanna and Joe for having us!

Saturday afternoon Lexi and I went to visit Aunt Randi over at her friend Tera's house. Tera and Frank have Brooklyn who is almost 3 and is totally Boo from Monsters Inc. and Louie, who is almost a horse. Brooklyn showed Lexi all the coolest toys one does not have yet at age 1, and we sat outside and enjoyed the warm weather. But Lexi was most interested in Louie the horse/dog, and I'm positive if she was able to talk, she would be begging nonstop for a horse/dog of her own.

Today Andy and I took Lexi downtown to the Vancouver Farmer's Market. We browsed all the produce and flowers and crafts before wandering over to the park next to the market to eat some lunch. I noticed the nearby play set and suggested taking Lexi for a swing. Of course Andy did the overprotective dad thing and insisted Lexi was too small for the swings but I threw caution to the wind and tossed her in! I fully expected her to hate it and scream her face off, but figured at least it would make for a cute photo op. I gave her a push and she let out the loudest happiest squeal ever! She just held on and laughed and stared at the neighbor in the swing next to her's. I even talked Andy into giving her a few pushes, as he was certain she was going to fly out of the swing at any given moment.

Lexi kicked off her birthday bash by getting all dolled up and making her grand party entrance by taking her first steps ever....

She visited with loved ones who came to party with her from near and far....

Lexi opened her many thoughtful gifts (with the help of mama) and was most impressed by the thoughtful wrapping paper on said gifts....

Next it was time for the best part of the festivities...cupcakes!

Hello there faithful Lexi fans! (All 2 of you who are still checking this blog LOL)
My sincerest apologies for not posting any pictures or updates on the Pea Pod since Christmas. Lexi has really hit the ground running in 2009 (and I mean that literally now). It is as if someone snuck into her 1st Birthday Party and smuggled out my calm sweet precious teeny tiny baby and replaced her with a loud, rambunctious, cat-terrorizing, gets-into-everything, always a split second away from crashing into something head first, ACTUAL HUMAN BEING PERSON. Thanks for the warning people!
Really though, turning 1 has been exhausting and thrilling all at the same time. As soon as I can get to the computer and upload some pictures without a certain someone trying to figure out the inner workings of the printer, we will get this thing updated!

Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It...ok really, that's enough now.

So this past week we have gotten more snow than I can ever remember having in this area, and today was the first truly white Christmas I can remember ever having. Watching the huge flakes fall and seeing everything covered in snow is all lovely and great...until about day 3. When you live in an area that only experiences this much snow oh say every 40 years, an area that is not even close to prepared to handle this much snow (it only takes a half an inch on the ground to shut down area schools) it can really create a headache for those trying to go about their everyday lives. Simply getting to work becomes a serious hassle. Trying to get your last minute Christmas shopping done? Fuggetaboutit. Even as I type this, I have seen 3 different cars get stuck at the stop sign on our street. But I suppose the snow has given us a few photo ops, so without further adieu, I present you with: *ARCTIC BLAST 2008.

8 Months Old

Today is Lexi's 8 Month Birthday! She amazes us more and more every day she grows. I often hear what an easy going baby she is and how enjoyable she is to be around, which some might credit to our spectacular parenting skills (oh please, we all know we are just wingin' it!) But I believe it is just her. She is happy and calm and charming and smart and has made becoming a parent pretty easy. She really deserves all the credit. She makes our life so sweet.
We are looking forward to her 1st Thanksgiving next week and then it is full steam ahead into the holidays!

Milestones

Greetings! Thought I would update you all on some key milestones that Lexi has reached recently, as this has been a very exciting Fall season in our house!

Speech: Lexi's 1st word....Da Da! Which quickly became replaced with Ba Ba (as in bottle) because as any smart woman knows, talking doesn't usually doesn't get a man's attention, food however, does. Ba Ba also means "Hey you, I'm wet/poopy/hungry/bored/sleepy/happy/tired of riding in the car/missing the game because you are blocking my view of the tv".
Mobility: Lexi is now able to maneuver her ASV (All Surface Vehicle) anywhere she pleases! Around the house, into walls, around corners, she can even parallel park that sweet ride (walker) in between the open dishwasher and someone standing at the stove! If Da Da would ever get around to souping up her Kolcraft Walker SSE (Sesame Street Edition) she would even have the speed and handling to catch that darn cat. Thankfully we have only had 1 hit and run, and the victim walked away with some minor tushy bruising (sorry Grandma Caryl).
Attitude: Lexi has also found a new way of expressing herself! PSHHHH! You know, that sound you make with your mouth in response to someone saying or doing something so ridiculous you have no words? PSHHHH! Lexi darling, would you like some sweet potatoes? PSHHH! Lexi sweetie, would you mind not kicking your legs like an Olympic swimmer while I change your diaper so that I can avoid getting poo everywhere? PSHHH! Lexi pumpkin, would you please not have super loud gas in the grocery store? PSHHH! (Yeah, happened again last night). I bet the eye rolling will be coming any day now!

Kari: Um, I don't know. Don't we have a few years to figure that out?
Andy: I suppose so. But when we do let her have a cell phone, are we going to pay for it or make her pay for it?
Kari: Haven't really thought that far sweetie, again, something we have some time to think about.
Andy: Well, I think she should pay for her own cell phone. I mean, we had to pay for her to be born.

BWAH HA HA HA! If that's his way of thinking, Lexi's teenage years are going to be a doozie!

Happy 6 Month Birthday to My Pea Pod

6 months old. Wow. She has been half a year old for almost a whole day now and I still can't believe it. Anyways, while mama was at work, Lexi hung out and played at home with dad. After mama got home from work, Lexi got dressed up in her sassy blue polka dot birthday dress and we went to Ice Cream Renaissance, a groovy little ice cream place in downtown Vancouver. Lexi got a teeny tiny little taste of ice cream (well, it is her birthday) which of course she promptly spit out. After that we went shopping at Target where Lexi got to pick out a new outfit and a new toy.

1)Miss Lexi, my pea pod, my teeny tiny sweetie pie baby will be 6 months old. How the heck did that happen? I swear last time I checked she was like 3 months old. 6 months old?!?!? So tomorrow I will post something fun in honor of her half birthday.

2)Tomorrow is also the 1st day of Fall--my favorite season! Football and rain and hoodie sweatshirts and pumpkins and nutmeg and lots of other good stuff.

Well, since we are only a couple weeks from the big Half a Year Old day, I decided the other night while browsing the baby food aisle at the grocery store, why not just pick some baby rice cereal up? So I did. And then this evening, I thought, well we have it, why not try and give her some? What's a couple weeks right, I'm sure she is just going to love it! Riiiiiiight. So tonight will forever be known as Lexi's first taste of real (if you can even call it that) mushy baby food. Please enjoy the following hilarity:

4 Month Check-up

1. It is not a tooth, just a cyst. Totally normal and will go away on its own. Darn I was really hoping for a tooth.
2. Stats: 14 pounds and 25 inches tall which puts her right in the middle for her age.
3. Not starting mushy food until 6 months, since she is sleeping through the night and gaining weight formula is fine.
4. She peed all over the examining table LOL
5. Her doctor said overall she is doing awesome!

This just in.......
After feeding Lexi her dinner bottle last night, I happened to notice a little tiny speck of a white dot in her mouth. At first glance I only assumed it was a little chunk of formula, but upon further inspection and some much unappreciated probing, I came to a different conclusion:

IT'S A TOOTH!!!!

It is teeny tiny and hard and white, right there on her gum-----what else could it be right? We will know for sure at her next doctor's appointment.

Portland Saturday Market

This weekend Lexi and I went to Portland Saturday Market with Auntie Randi and cousin Evan. It was so fun! We met at Auntie's office by the convention center and rode the MAX train downtown. The weather was warm and beautiful and Auntie wore Lex in the Baby Bjorn carrier all day so that she could see everything. Mama got to push the empty stroller through huge crowds of people----not so fun but oh well. We ate lunch, wandered around, browsed all of the vendor booths, Evan bought a groovy t-shirt, listened to a live band and saw some performance artists. Lexi seemed to love it all, she really loves people watching. And she is such a good baby--nothing seems to startle or upset her. Even though she is too young to remember anything, I love taking her to do fun and interesting things. Auntie even talked me into letting Lexi get her face painted! She was a very good sport for that, and the face painting lady said Lexi was her youngest customer :)

Can you even believe it?! I can't believe how fast our little pea pod is growing. It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating her first night of sleeping through the night and now we are moving toward teeth and solid foods! I just love the little personality that is coming out of her---sassy and funny and sweet. I have so much fun with her, she is just our little buddy.

We had a fabulous time at the beach this weekend---pictures and more on that later.

Well we had a great time in Seattle but mama forgot to take pictures oops!
Lexi did so well on the train, she loved sitting there looking out the window and watching people walk by. When we got up there on Saturday Amy picked us up and we went to Jen's to see her lovely apartment, then to lunch at everyone's favorite place...Olive Garden! Yum. After that it was on to the mall----Lexi and I had our first trip to Build-A-Bear, which we loved! The rest of the evening we just relaxed at Amy's, and Sunday we rode the train back home. It was a great quick trip up there, and so good to see the girls.
This weekend we are off to Newport to camp at Beverly Beach with Andy's family!

Tomorrow morning Lexi and I are riding the train to visit our friends Amy and Jen in Seattle! I can't wait to take her on the train, I hope she likes it (and by like I mean doesn't scream her face off). We plan to eat lunch, shop and walk around the waterfront, although knowing us we may also just end up at Amy's eating and watching movies :)
I'm sure I will have some cute pictures to put up when we get home on Sunday-----hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hello friends and family!
Decided it was time to do the trendy mom thing and start up a blog for Lexi. I often find that I am sending out multiple emails with pictures, updates and stories, and thought that this would be an easier way for everyone to keep track of our Pea Pod. I will do my best to post regularly, but as you all know, I usually run on Lexi-time :)
